This feels like a modern extension of the whole disney "the mum is dead and that's why the child's in trouble" trope. It seems so regressive.

There's a BBC comedy called "Motherland" where one of the "mummy" characters is a man whose wife has decided to work full-time, leaving him the stay-at-home dad and it's a much more interesting set-up, if you ask me...
